Finalising Set Design

We have been attempting to finalise our choices for set design and lighting. We had a meeting about this with the set designers to figure out what kind of props we have and whether we need to get anything else. Click here to get to the original post about set design, and click here to get to the post about our first discussion with them.

For the 1920's jazz club the set designer said we would be able to have a black backdrop made out of panels with some maroon coloured curtains to bring out the sense of being in the 1920's. She also told us that she was able to get a variety of chairs and tables to gain the sense of having an audience, and adding to the atmosphere that we want to have in the first place. We are also provided with a rostra to create a stage on which the dancers and musicians will be placed. We also have pretty simple lighting, with lights that can be placed on the tables and most likely the Galaxia LED Softbox. This will make the dancers as well as the musicians and everything else look quite elegant. Click here to get to the post about lighting.

As for the futuristic jazz club, we will have white flaps for the background instead, which we will backlight to make them quite bright. The stage will have some white fabric ontop of it to make it fit in withthe colour scheme better. The tables and chairs will stay the same, but the lights will be switched out with funky and contemporary modern lights, as well as possibly having several lights hanging from the ceiling. We weren't able to get a checkered floor however this doesn't make a big difference and due to the difference in walls, lights, and the stage, this won't be too much of an issue.

A very modernist approach to a stage

As for the shipping container, we will use it's appeal in the raw; the only thing we really need in there is a table and a stool - as well as four old laptops, a lot of wires, old lights, and a lot of science-test-tubes and so on. These we still have to organise from the science department, although this shouldn't be a large issue. We want to make the shipping container and the office look as unorganised as possible.

Clearing out the shipping container will take some time

Overall, the set design is looking great and I think this is all we need for our shoot on Tuesday. I think that we are pretty prepared when it comes to props and everything else.
