The first few ideas we came up with were:
- โบล์ท - this is literally just the word "Bolt" written in Thai letters. We thought that this may make a good name at first, however we then realised that there is something about the name of the band that people should be able to pronounce, write into a search bar on YouTube, Google or Spotify, or even write down. Therefore, we used it as our album name instead as it was quirky and different, similar to <|°_°|> by Caravan Palace.
- B-Side Label - This is something that Chris came up with, but Nanci and I didn't really like. We didn't quite know where the name came from and it didn't make any sense; not that it really had to, but we both felt that it wasn't an appropriate name for our campaign.
- AetherLens - The word Aether came from me after I had done some research into Steampunk and typical Victorian resources, materials, and items. Chris wanted to add a word afterward, and liked the word Lens; I however thought that it removed from the original idea.
- Aether - This is the idea which we then went with, and as mentioned it is the one which I found.
"Aether" is short, ambiguous, and scientific, which linked with everything that we had created. It is easy to remember and gives that old-school vibe which we sought after.
Aether itself has multiple meanings, classified into a large variety of different sections.
Metaphysics and Mythology:
- A material which is supposed to fill the atmosphere above the terrestrial sphere of the earth
- The personification of space and heaven, as read in Greek Mythology.
Science and Engineering:
- Modern physics, alchemy and natural philosophy suppose that this is a "fifth element".
- Late 19th century physics counted Luminiferous Aether to be a medium which light passes through.
- Ether, which is a class of chemical compounds
This, the Ptolematic System, is a medival concept of the cosmos, in which it is believed that Aether makes up the outer terrestrial spheres and includes celestial bodies.
