About Storyboards

One of the msot important things in the post-production process of music videos, or any kind of videos really, is the storyboarding. It helps to see the entire group and production team to figure out what kind of shots should be included, and help everyone to imagine what the video should look like.

Essentially, a storyboard is a visual aid alongside a shotlist to help with the footage to be shot. It has a great importance no matter how big or small the project.

Storyboards are great and are helpful when attempting to save both time and money, especially when attempting to create something as big as a music video. Everything has to fit perfectly, and usually are very time consuming. Everything has to be thought out and fit together perfectly before shoot day to ensure that everything is how it is supposed to be. They can be as complicated and detailed or as simple and 2D as need be, as long as it can be visualised.

Storyboards also help everyone in the group who is working on the music video and bringing ideas together, to understand what is actually going on. It helps to visualise ideas, and can also help with the editing afterwards to make it a quicker process and to let the editor know what sequence the seperate sequences were thought to be in.

In order to make our final product as good as we possibly can we have to create our own storyboard within the pre-production process. Click here to get to our storyboard which we created for our thriller last year. The storyboard which we created for our thriller last year is a prime example to help us envision what we wanted. Because our thriller consisted of rather abstract shots, it was very difficult to map out and imagine what we wanted. It didn't work out as well as we had hoped. This year we will probably have to create a more extensive storyboard to make sure that we know exactly what we want.
