Changed Direction... Again

After some deliberation and receiving feedback on our narrative for the track "Beatophone", we have decided to alter the idea that we already had and develop it into a possibly more interesting, and probably more simple video to shoot. Click here to get to our old idea development.

Our development of the idea leads us to a 1920's style jazz club where there are people dancing and enjoying themselves, alongside people playing the clarinet, saxophone, violin and piano (depending on the instruments we can get and that work with this song it may change), and then transitions into a more modern day and funky dancer section. Initially, what our idea entails now is going forward in time. I'm not too sure whether a funky club scene with a lot of funky lights will work with the song, however it is a base idea that can be used for development.

The next element we have in mind is a mad scientist who is working in his laboratory which is set up within the shipping container that we initially had in mind for the narrative including the photographic dark room (we have attempted to keep this idea alive, however we feel we have exhausted it and just had to get rid of it). Click here to get to the intial ideas for "Home", which included the Darkroom and Container ideas

Initially, the scientist will be working on his old computer and through messing certain parts up, or doing something funky, the entire scenery of the music video is transported to the future. This would happen during the peak of the song, which takes place from 2:18 to 2:49 of the song. Click here to get to our timelines. The progress forward in time will be documented through the costumes and also will be shown in the two different parts of the narrative, which will be the dance element and the overall jazz band scene.

To make the entire switch of the timestamps within the video more obvious, we were thinking of starting off with a sepia overlay or black and white overlay for the 1920's part, and then later on switch to colour as soon as the peak of the song happens. The switch will probably be represented by a burst of light coming from the Atomic 3000 DMX. Click here to get to our lighting post.

As we didn't have a lip sync element before, which was slightly worrying, we thought about integrating it into the element of the mad scientist; this will make it tie in nicely with the narrative and give the entire video a bit more structure, and also combine both well.

Next we will have to consider all elements of mise-en-scene.
