Today we went back into the editing suite during class to continue editing our music video from yesterday. In today's lesson we didn't get as far as we had hoped, as a lot of the discussion was about what shots we should use instead of others and whether or not we should use musicians as much as the dancers. Whilst I was for using the musicians more, Chris was quite against it as they aren't the main focus of the music video. I feel, however, because we are running out of footage to use and just looking at the dancers would prove to become quite boring, I argued to put in more close ups of them.
Here is a shot we have used rather frequently. It is a little bit of a problem as this is one of the only shots we have included of the pianist so far, and will look quite awkward if repeatedly used.
Another issue we ran into was which shot we wanted to use at the "wa wa waa" section of the song, as we weren't sure what shot to use. We had just previously used shots of the musicians so using them so quickly again was out of the question, and using the mad scientist was also out of the question as we had just used him the shot before. We decided to use one of the dancers clips from a little earlier in the song (which is cheating in some way but barely noticeable, unless there is amazing attention to detail), and filled this gap.
Another debate we engaged in was whether one of the shots should be of the violinist's face or their bow, as the shot beforehand was of the pianist's hands; hands and hands match quite well, whereas the face would most likely look slightly out of place. In the end we decided to use the shot of the bow as we could use the face shortly afterwards if we needed to and the hands-hands combination would work quite well.
Lastly, we went back to the beginning of the song and reconsidered the first shot we show of the mad scientist, which we exchanged for a shot of his back. I found this quite weird and disagreed with Chris' opinion, as I felt that this was unfitting and not a good idea. Therefore we changed it back.
