The Boggs:
The Boggs is an independent rock band from New York. Their band categorises under the acoustic post-punk and rock genre. Apparently, their band always has a different line up, which is why I believe that the artist is probably more organic rather than synthetic. This means that they hardly built and image for themselves when it comes to being in the spotlight, but rather attempted to make their songs more well known.
Their album cover (found above) has clear connotations of an indie and very organic imagery. Whilst the band is pictured, they are sitting in a line together, with a white background, and no specific lighting. Very little post production was done on the image and the title is all in lowercase.
Their song "Arm in Arm" is similar in sound (pop-rock-synthetic sound) to "Home"
To my surprise, this band has attempted to completely stay out of the spotlight and haven't even created a proper website for themselves. The only page where I was able to find a little bit of information on them was on last.fm and their Myspace page. Rather than being carefully constructed this band is completely organic and seems to have little to no interest of making themselves known to the public.
Whilst I believe that our artist/band which we will create in association with the song "Home" should be organic, however not to the extent where it seems as if there was little to no care about the band at all. The website should at least be constructed in a way to represent the pop-rock-synthetic (indie) vibe rather than a blurry image and just some basic information. I also feel that our music video can be laid out better and made more specific to the image of the band, who they are, and what they represent overall. See my word cloud.
Xylø:
This duo is based in Los Angeles and are categorised in a "Dark Pop" genre. The feel that I'm getting from these artists is alternative as well, especially because they seem more organic than synthetic according to Negus' star theory.
The album cover for this duo portrays the band in a more synthetic way rather than in an organic way, especially because of the faux lighting and the way the two artists are positioned. I think this is a cool way to present the artists because in this way it gives the audience an ability to at least familiarise themselves with the artists a little bit and know who's behind the music.
Here is one of their songs, "Afterlife", which in it's tune and the way it was created is pretty similar to the song "Home".
Their website embodies this concept quite well. Instead of portraying the artists immediately, they show something that can be applied to any of their songs and kind of what they stand for. I think I would like to use a similar theme for our website.
I think that both of these artist images and the way they are portrayed in an organic way can be helpful in the way we will be attempting to market the song "Home". I like the way the bands are presented, although I think I prefer the way Xylo is presented more than The Boggers.
