When looking at Nanci's ideas in comparison to Chris', we have a huge gap inbetween music tastes and the ideas that we three pitched. However, we'll make it work somehow.
Nanci's idea for the song "Big Yellow Taxi" by Lennon and Maisy (original by Joni Mitchell) perfectly fits into the indie genre, as that is what the song seems to be in the first place. When looking at the star image of the characters, she'd like the two girls she's invisioning in the video to have a similar image to Vanessa Carlton (A Thousand Years), Miley Cyrus (her old image at the time of songs like The Climb), and so forth. She imagines the artists to be more organic and perhaps keep them more out of the spotlight than a pop artist for example.
When it comes to the performance element of the song the basic jist is that the two girls would be sitting on the hub of a pick up truck, singing and playing the guitar. I find this a really nice idea, however I associate summer with this ore than anything. Warm colours, shorts, a tank-top is what I envision when I think of this country-esque image. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this necessarily, one important thing is that this video is being shot at the end of November/beginning of December, and I don't think that we could possibly have this kind of scene without the two actresses freezing to death. We had this issue with our thriller last year where we had Ollie Tennant in undergarments and shivering because of the cold. We had to get a heater and warm him up. It was half-way alright because he was supposed to play a dying character, but I think if it's too cold for the two girls singing, there could be a problem. We could also set up this scene in the studio with a green screen, however I'm not sure if the effects would be as neat as we'd like them to be, and therefore perhaps come up with a different solution if we do go along with this idea.
Her narrative is more intriguing; it deals with a young girl and boy playing on a field, dancing, enjoying themselves, which is then later juxtaposed by the adult/teen versions of the children dancing in an industrial zone, as if to symbolise the progression of the human race and need for space, as well as adjusting the world into a more modern society where nature doesn't really have a place in the city any more. This narrative could be rather hard hitting, and most people our age (16-20) could easily relate because I'm sure there's areas where, as children, we used to play and enjoy ourselves which is now no longer available due to buildings and other industrialised elements.
The band/singers seem to target an environmentally concious audience which the music video narrative ties in very well with.
I imagine this music video to be more calming like the song in comparison to Chris' idea. I'm not sure how easy it would be to film this, because working with children can always be difficult (due to their parents having to agree first, and then them also cooperating properly).
We also took a look at Nanci's second idea, "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" by Shania Twain. This idea is another country song, and the idea is to film this narrative in a barn. It has a lot to do with different kinds of shoes and so forth. Whilst I really like this idea, I think that the props and costumes could be very difficult to get and should perhaps be looked at again and developed.
