Feedback on Ideas

We have recently been discussing our music video ideas, the pros and cons of each, and which one we would be most likely to go ahead and use. To help us with the decision we showed Jason our songs and also gave him a bit of a background on the artist and how they've been doing.

We started off with the song "Big Yellow Taxi", an idea that came from Nanci. Whilst the song is a cover from a duo (Lennon and Maisy), the first issue that we might run into is that it's a popular song (original by Jody Mitchell). Another issue that came up was that the music video that goes along with the song already portrays the elements that Nanci had embodied in her idea. Alongside Jason we agreed that the idea of using a car park in the video should probably be disregarded because it goes along with the lyrics and may be quite stereotypical, predictable and unoriginal. If we go along with this idea we will probably still use the idea of a contemporary dance duet, and re-vamp the original idea of where we shuold locate everything and so on.

We also discussed Chris' idea and my idea. When talking to Jason we realised that both of the songs "Scarlet" and "Home" are good potential songs for music videos as we could make them quite dynamic and interesting. Jason believes that there is a gap in the market for my choice of song "Home", as it is a mix of the indie, pop, and rock genre. This means a lot of people probably wouldn't have something similar, and the music video can pretty much be anything we want it to be. Chris' idea is alternative metal, and even though it is a "metal" band, it doesn't mean that it's screamo or anything hardcore, which could also lead to good ideas for music videos when not necessarily listening to the lyrics and the dark aspect of the video (this would lead to a more thriller-esque music video which I would prefer to avoid...)

I also think that it might be smart for us to re-think our ideas as a group. Each of our original ideas probably have issues within themselves and should at least be developed so we can come up with something together.

  1. Evie,

Excellent blog posts published in the last week which demonstrate the research of your initial ideas for a track/ artist and star image. Excellent detail and justification for ideas. Detailed and exclusive research onto similar artists and their associated star image and products is very informative and your blog entries are fully reflective. Well done.

You have completed research into expected primary audience and attempt to apply audience profiles – this will help you understand the need for a consumer/ market for the product of the image that is to be promoted. Which record company would you sign up to?
