The powder in discussion here is "blood" powder which I found in the basement of my old house. It is reddish powder, which when in contact with water, is triggered to become liquid. I'm not quite sure what it is called, as the box has no label on it, whatsoever.
I believe that this power would be more useful when needed for drops of blood, or smears of blood, because it's not that dark unless it is used in tiny quantities, or less water is used (here I used quite a bit of water, so if I didn't use as much the possibility that it would work better is higher).
This is an interesting concept that we could consider. Also, in darker circumstances this type of blood could be more useful. You don't need a lot of the powder to make a giant mess.
The only problem I have with this is that once it is activated with water, it is really difficult to get off of the skin. I find that using some kind of cream first helps remove the colour better, however it is very likely that the skin will become slightly stained for a while.
Next I tried out these capsules that would be used in the theatre to bite on, which would then make it look like there is blood coming out of the mouth.
I wanted to test one out, however wasn't sure whether I should put one of them in my house as they had been sitting in my old houses' basement for a while.
I decided to cut one up instead, and surprise surprise, it was the power-y stuff again.
When I tried it with water, it was pretty light again, and very runny. Maybe that's just the way this type of thing was designed.
So I decided to try it with spit instead. And I don't exactly know what happened, but there turned out to be black spots in the mix. I don't know whether that was on purpose, or whether it's because the powder is so old. Maybe it's supposed to darken the blood when it's dripping rather than sitting on the paper as it is here. It turned out to be a little thicker, because spit is generally also thicker than water, so I think that these could potentially be used if we wished for our victim to have blood coming out of it's mouth.
Over all, both types of fake blood don't dissapoint. Perhaps if we activated both with a little thicker mixture of water, we would be able to achieve the desired look. Perhaps thinned down ink and then mixed with a little bit of flour would do the trick, as it would a) make the blood darker as the black of the ink would mix into it, and b) the flour would help make the water a little thicker as well. That would probably help increase the quality of this fake blood.
