Research into 1920's Dancing

Because we are about to audition the dancers for our music video, we kind of need an idea of what exactly it is that we want to get them to do. Because we will have to ask them to come up with the routine, it might be helpful for them if we have something to show them as inspiration.

There are a large variety of types of dances in this era, and the ones we are probably most interested in are dances such as Charleston, Foxtrot and Flapper Style Dancing, as this would fit in best with the music video.

The Charleston dance has quite exaggerated leg movements and are very expressive. I think the dancers should include some of these movements as they may fit in well with the beat of the music. Using these elements in the futuristic dance part may be very useful as well.

Using dances such as the foxtrot, or salsa may be difficult as these are typically dances executed in a duet. These are very swift movements, and whilst the foxtrot is more smooth in comparison to the Charleston, and the salsa is more sexual, I might see a problem with these kind of dances fitting in with the music.

Here is an example of dances that we might want our dancers to interpret in their own way.

Another dance that was quite popular in the 1920s was the Quickstep. This dance may fit in quite well as the song itself is quite upbeat and we want the dance element to be fun and upbeat.
