Looking at our Ideas: Chris' Ideas

In an effort to get to know everyone elses' ideas properly and perhaps come up with a new idea, we decided to discuss our favourite ideas infront of each other.

Chris' favourite idea goes in accordance with a song called "Scarlet" by the alternative metal band "In this Moment". The base of the music video is a narrative, and because it is a metal band, sudden and quite violent jump cuts to the performance, and back.
What I found particularily interesting about his music video idea was that during the performance element of the video, he wanted a rain machine outdoors. Whilst this is a really unique idea and I haven't seen anyone do it in music videos at Hurtwood thus far, I'm concerned as to how that would properly work, as we a) might not have a rain machine, b) we're shooting the music video in late November/start of December, which would cause the cast to freeze to death, and c) the instruments that we have on hand would most likely break.
Whilst I don't necessarily want to go into the details of filming and the technical already, I just thought it may be important to consider this. Whilst I think it is an amazing idea for the performance element, also because it had never been done before, I can't see this element of the music video being incorportated due to the Health and Saftey of the people and instruments starring in the video. To be honest, we probably wouldn't need a rain machine due to almost guaranteed bad weather in England, however I probably wouldn't want to risk it.

The rest of the video is quite interesting and dark in itself, however it reminds me a lot of the thrillers we shot last year and therefore I'm not sure whether I would want to do all of that again. (Please note that even though I created the most bloody thriller of all of Hurtwood last year, I am quite squeamish and I don't know whether I would be able to pull myself together for this again). In a nutshell:

What I like about his idea is that it fits in well with the song. I'm not sure whether it fits in with the band image, but I suppose the band itself is rather dark, so it may fit in alright. The song he chose is a hardcore rock song, in which a common theme is violence, blood, death, and so forth. He mentioned in his blog post that the target audience would enjoy these kind of themes; I'd say anyone who enjoys those themes may coincidentally enjoy hardcore rock but I don't think that most people are necessarily into that kind of thing. If you see a video like that and it fits in with the song, then yes, I suppose people could enjoy it. As the track itself is called "Scarlet", it is about risking their lives and such, which can cause the narrative to fit in well.

He also said he enjoyed the idea for the song "South Side Suicide" by the "Suicideboys" which is a rap duo, however just by reading the title I'm a little concerned as we are supposed to create a music video that goes in accordance with the video and I don't think I would necessarily want to feature a song talking about a contriversial subject as such. He mentions that there is no narrative within his song, and that it's just a rap duo in locations and friends. Whilst I don't mind using a rap song, I think it would be quite difficult finding people who would fit the image and lip sync it well.
